Unless something develops that’s concerning, you don’t usually focus on your skin or moles. At Birmingham Royal Oak Medical Group, Mumtaz George, MD, conducts regular skin checks on men, women, and children in Royal Oak, Michigan, to evaluate moles, acne, rashes, and other skin abnormalities. At his on-site clinic, he can check suspicious skin issues and usually get an answer the same day. To investigate a mole or have a thorough skin check, call for an appointment or use the online scheduler.
Moles are heavily pigmented areas or spots on your body. Most people have several moles that can be flat or raised, light or dark, and small or large. In general, moles are nothing to worry about, but occasionally one can develop into a dangerous skin cancer called melanoma.
A mole should be removed if you notice:
Dr. George is also happy to remove moles that are benign, that rub against your clothes, or that are in undesirable locations.
When your oil glands get clogged, bacteria cause inflammation that creates red bumps or pustules, called acne, to form. It’s most common in adolescence when hormone fluctuations exacerbate oil production, but acne can form at any age.
Dr. George meets with you to look over your skin and develop a personalized plan to treat you. If your acne is mild, over-the-counter medications or serums may be sufficient, but chronic acne may require stronger options, such as:
Your provider goes over the pros and cons of each therapy to help you determine if a single option or a combination of several will best minimize and heal your acne.
There are plenty of places on your body that are hard to see on your own. Dr. George examines you from head to toe when he performs a skin check, including your neck, head, arms, legs, between your toes and fingers, crevices, genitalia, ears, and hands.
You can expect your appointment to last about 15-20 minutes. If Dr. George needs to remove a mole, you can expect to stay a little longer while he numbs the area, removes the mole, and sends it to the lab to check for abnormalities.
If you’re self-conscious because of acne or a rash, need a skin check, or have a suspicious mole that needs to be removed, call Birmingham Royal Oak Medical Group or use the online scheduler to make an appointment.
